PSY, Super Junior, and Hangeng are a the few of the acts nominated for different categories at the 2012 MTV EMA. After a successful awards ceremony last year which featured Big Bang winning “Worlwide Act” in Belfast, Ireland – three more acts have been confirmed for this year’s nominations list.
PSY’s hit track “Gangnam Style” which has gone viral worldwide is nominated in the “Best Video” category, contending with Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, M.I.A, and Rihanna. The nomination was explained with, “Psy has been a star in his native South Korea for over a decade, but thanks to the viral ‘Gangnam Style’ video and a VMA appearance, he’s now an international sensation.” The winner for this category will not be based on online voting but through a selected panel from MTV.
Meanwhile, Super Junior and Hangeng will be battling it out in the same category, as they are both nominated for “Best Asia Act.” The profile page also described Super Junior as the main leader of the Korean wave and managed to gain a huge following across the globe. Hangeng, on the other hand, was described as the most influential male celebrity in China, dominating a good influence in Southeast Asia. Both acts will be contending against other big names such as EXILE, Jolin Tsai, and Yuna. Voting will continue until October 14th and the winner will be included in the “Worldwide Act” category.
